SOUTH AFRICA POLITICS: OUTA Condemns Death Threats Against Makhosi Khoza, Thokozani Magwaza

JOHANNESBURG – Civil society group, the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) has condemned the death threats made against outspoken African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament (MP) Makhosi Khoza and the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) Chief Executive Officer Thokozani Magwaza.

Makhosi Khoza is under fire from within the ANC for publicly backing a secret ballot when MPs vote on the motion of no confidence against President Jacob Zuma next month.

She has recently posted on her Facebook page a screengrab of a message telling her she has 21 days to live.

At the same time, it’s being reported that Magwaza’s life may also be in danger and he’s allegedly being pressured to accept an exit package.

He is due to testify against Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini in a public enquiry into her role in the Sassa payment scandal.

Outa’s Wayne Duvenage says:

“We view them (the threats) very seriously; here we have people of moral courage standing up and speaking their minds about serious matters and they are fully entitled to do so. For them to be subjected to death threats is totally outrageous.”
