Ledell Lee, 51, was pronounced dead at 11:56 p.m. CDT at the state’s death chamber in its Cummins Unit prison, a Department of Corrections spokesman said.
Supreme Court had already granted stays to two of the eight inmates, reducing the number of executions to six within an 11-day period.
“Initial checks of the mass grave revealed remains with prison uniforms and lined up in a way that indicates they were shot dead in groups,” said Karim Nouri, spokesman for the Hashid Shaabi.
President Obama is planning to transfer at least 18 Guantanamo Bay detainees within days after announcing four prisoners are being sent to Saudi Arabia.
“I can think of no other project that would have such positive impact on our inmates and our country than building this wall,” Sheriff Thomas Hodgson said.
“When people leave prisons and can’t turn their lives around, they too often end up back behind bars,” White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett said.
