“The focus of the government is on the Supreme Court case, winning that case and proceeding with article 50,” Theresa May’s spokesman told reporters.
“We shall take time to consider the matter and give our judgements as quickly as possible,” Lord Chief Justice John Thomas, Britain’s most senior judge.
Michel Sapin, in a French twist on Boris Johnson’s “baloney” jibe, said: “There are four freedoms and they cannot be separated.”
Article 50 TEU does not set down any conditions for a Member State to exercise its right to withdraw, rather it includes only procedural requirements.
