NIGERIA POLITICS: Boko Haram Militants Kill Nigerian Soldiers in Borno State

NIGERIA POLITICS: Boko Haram Militants Kill Nigerian Soldiers in Borno State

“I was one of those trailing behind the military convoy when Boko Haram opened fire and soldiers responded with fire,” Sani Mato, a commercial bus driver, said, adding, “The soldiers were able to repel the attack but lost three men. Five were also injured.”

Boko Haram has been largely pushed back out of its main strongholds in northern Nigeria, according to the country’s military and government. The group, however, is still active in their Sambisa Forest enclave in Borno and launches sporadic attacks on civilians and security forces there.

NIGERIA POLITICS: The Tyranny Of The Minority

NIGERIA POLITICS: The Tyranny Of The Minority

The tyrants in the National Assembly have erased an efficient democratic opportunity for determining the public good. They are not constrained by the need to bargain with the people’s interests.

The people lacks any mechanism for holding the tyrannical minority to account or even to listen. They simply have their way, without regard to reach out to the people. The dangerous aspect of this is that the potential for instability and separatists agitations exists and increase when the rest of 180 million people ends up as permanent losers.

To get the business of the majority – the people – done, we must overthrow the tyranny of the minority in the National Assembly.

NIGERIA POLITICS: President Buhari, Buhariphobics And That World Bank Hoopla

NIGERIA POLITICS: President Buhari, Buhariphobics And That World Bank Hoopla

But because they are petty and obviously pursuing very notorious agendas, the Buhariphobics whose lives now revolve around nit-picking every word or action from President Buhari and his government, scavenging same for faults to ply their jaded wares, are not consoled by the obvious intents of President Buhari in making this patriotic request. They ask why the World Bank President never said that President Buhari requested them to focus on the North but on the North-East. Can you imagine such silliness? Can you imagine such pettiness? Can you imagine such mischief? Can you imagine such avarice?

NIGERIA POLITICS: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Offers Buhari Best Solution to Beat ‘Corruption’

Former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said, “The bid stories about scandals about corruption are really what people want to read. But actually, fighting corruption and putting those systems in place are very ‘unsexy’; it takes time. It took us 10 years to try and build the Government Integrated Financial Management System in Nigeria, to get way from cash-based transactions.

“When you say the Government Integrated Financial Management System, it is so boring; nobody wants to hear. But that is what needs to be done. So, that is my one mantra. I think it is all about strengthening institutions.

NIGERIA POLITICS: Biafra: Now That Nwodo Is Talking

“I saw the Biafran war with my two eyes. My father was Minister for Local Government in the Eastern Regional Government of Dr. Michael Okpara but I fought on the front lines. I was a full lieutenant in the Biafran army. I fought in Ore. I fought in Orlu. I fought in Enugu. I fought in the Bafran School of Infantry. I worked for several months at the Biafran Airport in Uli.

“Abusing the President will not give us Biafra. Abusing other tribes and calling them names will not give us Biafra. Telling Igbos to stop attending churches with Yoruba pastors will not give us Biafra. It will rather widen the gaps between us and these other people who themselves are victims of the injustices in Nigeria. It will annoy them and they will abandon us. We can’t push this alone. We need the support of our neighbours. By busing and threatening others, you put the lives of our people who live there in danger (emphasis mine)”.

NIGERIA POLITICS: 2,300 Boko Haram Militants to Face Mass Trials

The trials are seen as a positive step, as many of the detainees had been held in custody for years, without access to a lawyer or ever having appeared before a judge. Amnesty International said in a June 2015 report that more than 20,000 people had been arbitrarily arrested as part of the fight against Boko Haram.

NIGERIA POLITICS: Anti-Graft Agency Rejects Patience Jonathan ‘Witch-Hunt’ Accusation

In a statement signed by her media aide and dated Oct. 2, Patience Jonathan accused the EFCC’s acting chairman of an “unjustified witch-hunt and media propaganda” against her and her family.

“It is either the EFCC is now led by people who cannot conduct proper investigations, or they are deliberately feeding the public with false information,” said the statement.

“We believe that she is being systematically persecuted and punished because of her unflinching support for her husband during the 2015 elections.”

NIGERIA POLITICS: Requiem For Nigeria @ 57

NIGERIA POLITICS: Requiem For Nigeria @ 57

At 57, Nigeria is a shining example of a government of feckless inaction, fetid bureaucracy, and unfettered bullshit. Nigeria is dying, yes. It’s a victim of undeserved vindictiveness of a greed, corrupt, stupid, foolish, and callous political class. As Nigeria begins her 58th year, I’ll encourage our battered citizens to turn their furious indignation into action, their collective misery into unstoppable bond of vengeance, and direct their anger, blessed anger, to the engine of political and social change.

Happy Independence? Nah…

NIGERIA POLITICS: Nnamdi Kanu Mysterious Disappearance Takes Center Stage

Kingsley Kanu, 48, said he was with his older brother Nnamdi, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, at their family home on the evening of Sept. 14 when soldiers stormed in.

“They were shooting everything they saw,” he said, pointing to bullet holes in walls and windows. “They came here just to kill everybody,” he said, adding that around 20 IPOB members were shot dead but most of the bodies were taken by soldiers.

“The military did not raid Nnamdi Kanu’s residence,” a military spokesman told reporters in the capital, Abuja. “Nnamdi Kanu is not in the custody of the military.”

NIGERIA POLITICS: Secessionists Not Allowed to Dismembered Nigeria: Buhari Says

NIGERIA POLITICS: IPOB is a Terrorist Group: Federal Government Explains Why

Information Minister, Lai Mohammed says, “We know this as a fact. Again, there are a few knotty diplomatic issues which you need to skip. For instance, who does not know that the IPOB internal radio is located in London? We know the diplomatic moves we have been taking and approaching the UK, all the damage it has done; but they don’t see it that way. For them, it is about freedom of expression.

If we have a person in Nigeria openly soliciting arms to come and fight the UK, what would you think of it? Would you consider that freedom of expression? And this is a country that also has had a history; what did the Irish Republican Army (IRA) do to be labelled a terrorist organisation? They were planting bombs, they were fighting the British army.”

CAMEROON POLITICS: 100,000 Nigerian Refugees Illegally Deported By Cameroon: Human Rights Watch

“Cameroon’s army has been aggressively screening newly arriving Nigerians at the border, subjecting some to torture and other forms of abuse, and containing them in far-flung and under-serviced border villages,” the report said.

“This policy of blocking asylum seekers from accessing protection has made it easier for Cameroon to deport them,” it said, adding that the U.N. refugee agency (UNHCR) has been denied access.

NIGERIA POLITICS: Ndigbo, As 2019 Beckons

If Igbo elects to approach the 2019 election with the reigning post-2015 election mindset, with the grudge, bitterness and deep-seethed anger they are carrying over from their historical mistake of 2015, then they should be prepared to warm that role longer than 2023. After 2023, they will realize the truth in the saying that power is never surrendered on a platter of gold. One has to work to get the power he dreams of.

NIGERIA POLITICS: IPOB: The Ants, the Hyenas and the Purveyors of Falsehood

It is hate to force people to lie down face-deep in muddy waters and force them to drink the water under the watchful eyes of a genocidal army. It is even more hateful to kill armless civilians in their sleep as was the case in the invasion of Nnamdi Kanu’s ancestral home recently.
