The warning comes after Ms Bishop pledged solidarity with South Korea in the face of the North’s ongoing nuclear threat.

“We stand united with (South Korea) against the provocative and threatening behaviour of North Korea,” Foreign Minister Julie Bishop told reporters.

North Korea said in an announcement on state television that a hydrogen bomb test ordered by leader Kim Jong Un was a “perfect success” and a “meaningful” step in completing the country’s nuclear weapons programmes.
