At issue for Taipei is whether Trump-Xi meeting will harm Taipei’s interests as US begins new arms package for Taiwan, a move sure to anger China.

“We protest the Tsai government,” the protesters chanted, calling the reform plan “government bullying” and “majority tyranny.”
“Congratulations @realDonaldTrump. Democracy is what ties Taiwan and the US together. Look forward to advancing our friendship & partnership,” Tsai tweeted just minutes after Trump took his oath of office.
The 10-minute telephone call with Taiwan’s leadership was the first by a U.S. president-elect or president since President Jimmy Carter switched diplomatic recognition from Taiwan to China in 1979.
The list comes after official communication channels between Taiwan and China ceased.
