NIGERIA POLITICS: The Yoruba Advance And The Afenifere Attempt At Sabotage

Afenifere supported Buhari in 2007 at a time when Buhari’s running mate was non-Yoruba and at a time his ethnocentric impulses were at its worst. This same Afenifere also supported GEJ in 2015 when it became clear to the Yoruba nation that the government of GEJ was implementing an insidious anti-Yoruba agenda. Today, Afenifere is doing all to Sabotage the current alliance between the Yoruba and the Buhari government not because of any matter of principle but because of its jealousy about the success of that one time governor Govenor of Lagos state whose party has morphed into the party of governance at the Federal level and whose Yoruba contingent hold positions of power and influence under Buhari.

NIGERIA POLITICS: Still on Buhari’s 32′ TV and the Epistle According to Garba Shehu

Instead of wasting precious time and efforts dwelling on a TV model of the president, Shehu should have utilized such time and resources to write essays on why ASUU, resident doctors and those planning to go on strike soon should have a rethink and cooperate with government. He has rather exposed Buhari as a man left behind by time because TV sets of these days are now packed with a lot of functions that can even make one use them for other very useful purposes apart from just watching programmes.

NIGERIA POLITICS: The Ozubulu Church Massacre And The Moral Question In Igboland

Ozubulu tragedy should serve as a wakeup call for the Igbo nation that there is indeed fire on the mountain. NIGERIA POLITICS: Hate Speech Law Is a Resurrection Of Decree 4

The hate speech law is to restrict or abridge free speech of Nigerians. It’s a law based on viewpoint, an egregious form of content discrimination which is presumptively unconstitutional. The Constitution does not entrust freedom of speech to government’s benevolence. Instead, our reliance must be on the substantial safeguards of free and open discussion in a democratic society. It cannot be stressed enough that speeches that governments or their agents, and enemies of free speech view as offensive are protected not just against outright prohibition, but also against lesser restrictions.
