“Zuma has shown he can be absolutely reckless in pursuit of his political agenda,” said NKC African Economics political analyst Gary van Staden.
Festus Mogae, chairman of Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) has asked South Sudan leader Riek Machar to declare a unilateral ceasefire.
“If confirmed, this could be the long-awaited compromise where Jacob Zuma agrees to go in return for some protection,” said political analyst Nic Borain.

“The international community is frustrated with the obstruction of UN peacekeeping operations that has gone on for too long,” US Ambassador Samantha Power.
“He was being pursued constantly since he withdrew from Juba,” said an opposition spokesman, Mabior Garang de Mabior, adding that Mr. Machar would soon travel to the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
