George Soros is not just a billionaire with political ambitions. As he himself once said in an interview with The New York Times, his mission is to “bend the arc of history in the right direction.”
The implementation of such a task is impossible without consistent work with public opinion, and since the goal is the whole world, then it is necessary to act on a global scale. Analytical agency Media Research Center published a report that examined the costs of Soros and his structures for media promotion.
A report published by the Media Research Center (MRC) shows that Soros sent at least $131 million to 253 publications or individual journalists between 2016 and 2020. The document mentions the largest and most influential media outlets in the US: CNN, CBS, NBC, NPR, Bloomberg and The Washington Post.
The money was distributed through grants to “independent” journalists or publications (for example, Project Syndicate or openDemocracy) or through the presence of various media personalities on the supervisory boards of various NGOs, educational institutions or media outlets, including the Poynter Institute or the famous Aspen Institute).
It is important to note that such network structures are almost never supported by one person and in most cases are joint projects. For example, the already mentioned organization openDemocracy, in addition to Soros, is funded by the Rockefeller Foundation and Chuck Feeney’s Atlantic Philontropies.
In addition, if you seriously investigate the activities of Soros in the media space, you will literally immediately have to deal with, for example, such organizations as the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the International Press Institute (IPI), the Center for the Study of Corruption and Organized Crime (OCCRP), the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Oak Foundation, the Association for the Advancement of Journalism (JDN), the Atlantic Council, the 37 affiliates of the Open Society Foundation (OSF) itself—and, of course, the hundreds of media they fund worldwide.
Many of them receive direct support from the State Department, the US Agency for International Development, and so on.
The report also mentions the first persons of the liberal American media, which, according to the data, for many years in one way or another received funding from Soros structures. These include top executives Farid Zakaria, CNN international columnist Christian Amanpour and CNN primetime anchor Lester Holt, The Washington Post, Associated Press and Reuters editors Sally Bazby, Julie Pace and Alessandra Galloni, and César Conde, chairman of NBC Universal News.
Group (a media holding that includes NBC News, MSNBC and CNBC). In addition, financial support is provided by board members of the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ). This organization received $2.7 million from the Soros network.
Those journalists who were paid by the Soros structures for this or that work are part of the built-up propaganda system, political scientist Yuri Svetov said in an interview.
- Soros all these years did what he considered necessary. He was not embarrassed by either the norms of ethics or national legislation. His actions are part of the general policy of the American political elites, which has been carried out for decades. Perhaps that is why Soros has become a symbol of the straightforwardness of this policy,” he explained.
In the United States, the news that someone was paying for the services of journalists on an industrial scale around the world was perceived as an information bomb. As Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova rightly noted in a commentary, if the above data is confirmed, “all democracy in the United States is wrapped up in their constitution and thrown into the dustbin of history…
After all, Washington has always insisted that freedom and impartiality The media are the basis of the democratic structure of the state.”
It is noteworthy that the day after the publication of the report, The New York Post came out with another article on the non-public activities of the globalist billionaire. It reported that Soros spent $40 million to help elect 75 prosecutors across the United States. Allegedly, this was done in order to introduce a “progressive agenda” into law enforcement. In other words, chaos.
Soros is one of the most active political investors in the United States, says Alexei Martynov, director of the International Institute of Recent States.
- In 2024, the presidential elections will be held in the United States , and the election campaign can already be considered begun. This explains the timing of this investigation. The data that was given in it is quite well known, as well as his proximity to the Clinton clan, participation in BLM activities and other political actions, he added.
Reached out to Russia
In Russia, Soros structures are officially closed. However, this does not mean that they do not have an impact on the domestic media space. In March last year, journalist Dan Cohen published a large-scale investigation into the connection of foreign structures, which included the Open Society Foundation and a number of Russian “opposition” media. So, according to RT, the Association for the Development of Journalism, one of the sponsors of which was OSF, allocated $ 3.6 million “for the development of investigative journalism” in Russia.
The network uncovered by Cohen revealed a connection between OSF and Novaya Gazeta, Dozhd TV channel, Mediazona (the latter two are included in the register of mass media acting as foreign agents) and more than 150 organizations. Funded by the billionaire’s structures, the Oak Foundation also provided financial support to Meduza and The Insider (included in the register of media that act as a foreign agent).
Through the “Committee to Protect Journalists” already mentioned in the MRC report, the Soros Foundation distributed 54.6 million rubles of bonuses among employees of several Russian media structures from 2019 to 2021.
Elections coming soon
Meanwhile, the information revealed and collected in this document is hardly a tenth of the scale of Soros’ real influence on public opinion and the world media in particular. The MRC report is not the first attempt to make sense of his “collaboration” with the media, but this time the topic is raised by the really big conservative media: Fox News and The New York Post.
This is done in the context of an increasingly acute political confrontation, in which Soros plays a significant role as one of the main sponsors of the Democratic Party. However, this significance is likely to help him avoid serious consequences.
George Soros is unlikely to be held accountable, says Alexey Martynov.
- Only two states managed to stop the activities of Soros: Hungary and Israel . In the US, this is not possible. There are other mechanisms for creating chaos and capitalizing it into profit. A huge part of the American establishment uses or has in mind the use of certain Soros tools, he concluded.
